Warranty on Grid feed Inverters

Postby pnidras » Thu Jun 17, 2010 3:35 pm

Most grid feed inverters on the market have a 5 year warranty (with some extending to only a few years with higher fees)
What is the expected life of a battery inverter? 5 years?
Has anyone had any experiences with life expectancy?
Has anyone had experiences where they have failed but have been repaired or simply replaced?

I know the design life for the Grid Tied Inverters is 20 Years, and they come with 5 years as standard. Some Inverters, like the Xantrex range, and the Chinese AeroSharp Inverters come with 10 years standard warranty.

In contrast to the Battery inverters, i think the Grid Tied Units are of higher quality. So i think they will last longer. But in saying that, i have a 2KW Chinese 24V battery inverter on a SPS which only came with one year warranty, but has been going strong for nearly 6 years now.

As long as its not a cheap ebay inverter, but one from a reputable manufacturer, i think it'll last you a fair while.

The first thing to go in these inverters would be the capacitors, as they do wear out, and they wear out much quicker if they are cheap caps that are stressed too hard.
