Just thought ill like to show everyone the various types of maximisers in our competition.
We have:
Top Left - Boxhill v4.0, auto tracking maximiser.
Top right - Boxhill v2.0, manual set maximiser.
Center - Easymax III, rev.C, One Touch set maximiser.
Bottom left - Scorpio Modified unit, manually set.
Bottom right - Engelec Max4, manually set maximiser.
Between all the units, there is only just a few % difference in efficiency, which is just mainly seen at the low end, and as your car speeds up (or after the first 10 - 15 meters of the race), the differences would be negligible. This is verified in Ian Gardners designs hints.
The main difference between all the units is the Box hill auto tracking maximiser. Its actually not a maximiser, and should be called a maximum power point tracker, or MPPT. This units continuously seeks your panels MPP (maximum power point) to harvest as much power as possible from your panels.
Auto tracking is a really fancy feature to have in an electronics unit, however, if all other units are set correctly, the differences in power output, between the units, would be minimal. This feature would mainly benefit us during extreme cooling/heating of the panels, which would cause the solar panels MPP to shift more than +/-2 volts.
