Solar Boats

here is th eboat that came 2nd at penrith in 2006, with half the panel not working due to a dodgey cell! would we have won with the other half, considering we lost by a metre? most probably...

also note the yellow gafa tape... the waves were crashing over the front, so half a roll of tape later, and hey! we were waterproof! :P we also raced with flat batteries in the receiver that had been in my remote for about a year...real smart, but thankfully they lasted...

and just look at the first photo! how good is that thing! :) band aid job, it was in testing stage, of course, but note the filler on the hulls. it wasnt waterproof, and it started to float around the pool, and well, you can imagine the mess it made.... :o

good times!

What kind of speeds do those boats get up to in good sunlight?

Also, does anyone out there have an electronic version of the 2008 rules that they could load up?

i dont think they will have some speed coz what i have heard there was a solar passenger boat which made history in 2007
The 46ft long boat, traveeled with a constant speed of 10kmh. During the day, the 48 solar panels on its roof gather energy from the sun. The power is stored in batteries, which allow it to sail through the night. The motorized catamaran has two polyester hulls and measures 46 feet (14 meters) by 21 feet (6.5 meters). this boat traveled from Europe to US and with the max speed of 10kmh juts imagine how days it have taken to travel
