SMA SB1100 grid tied Inverter. An Inside View..

As you may know, over the past couple years the Australian government has had the $8000 SHCP solar rebate in place. During this period there was 50 000 homes fitted with 1KW (as the grant applies $8 per watt for the first kilowatt) solar systems, and another 70 000 homes still in progress. Of these 50 000 homes, 40% were fitted with the Sunnyboy SB1100 1.1KW inverter.

So, having one at hand, i decided to pop it open. :)

Anyways, this inverter is German made, transformer based, with a maximum efficiency of 92%. Pretty low ha?
Just for comparison, the CMS inverter shown here: pv-solar-systems-review-advice-appreciated-t233.html is a Taiwanese made inverter, rated for 2KW and transformer-less, with an efficiency upwards of 95%, and is around 10% cheaper.

Main benefits of this inverter are access to SMA's web datalogging portal through a SMA webbox, and its IP65 rating, which allows outdoor installation.

Anyways, here are the photos:
This particular unit is was distributed by BP solar, hence the Green, and BP Solar markings. They are normally red and say SMA instead. grid-tied-inverters-t77.html
