s.o.s. from Portugal - engelec max4

Postby parlota » Tue Jul 14, 2009 1:40 am

hello,
I am a Portuguese teacher involved in solar racing cars and would like to know if someone could provide me the manual of how to regulate the Maximizer Engelec Max4 since acquired it in ebay but had no such document and the instructions on setting up and how to instal in the car. :(

I have a solar panel for 24v VOC and 0.5 A ISC and a 2232R engine Faulhaber SR 006 but not yet figured to get the maximum power voltage from de panel (I have not plotted yet, the graph Solar Panel Output Power vs Volts.)
Excuse my English! :?

Hello, i dont have the instructions for the Engelec max4, however, if you go to www.engelec.com.au, and contact John Jeffery, im sure he will be able to help you as he is the manufacturer.

Cheers.

No worries.

If you get a hold of the instructions, it would be good if you can post them on this site so others can have access to it as well.

Cheers.

A document/set of instructions for the Engelec max4 definitely does exist. I have a hard copy from a few years back somewhere. John certainly hands them out with kits that you need to assemble yourself. I'm not quite sure why some of the made up ones can be purchased without.

I think an electronic version on the net would probably be very useful to a lot of people.

I think I might contact him and see if he can send me a pdf version and I'll stick it up on the Tasmanian Website and also post it here. That's if you don't beat me to it parlota.

Hello, you dont need to plot a graph. Just connect the maxi miser output to a 1 ohm 10 watt resistor, and adjust it untill you can see maximum voltage on the output, then you should be at maximum power. Its also a good idea to set it just a little below the maximum power point to compensate for the panel heat rise (the mpp will drop as the panel heats up).

Hello
The instructions he(Mr John Jeffery) gave me are contained in your documents!

"With a normal maximiser, to tune your maximiser you’ll need to connect a voltmeter
to the motor, stall the motor, and trim a potentiometer until you get maximum
voltage across the motor. When you see maximum voltage across the motor, it means
your solar panel is at its MPP." Tony B

Well, the engelec , scorpio and elabtronics electronics units you need to do that.

With the easymax, you just press the button whilst the motor is stalled, and it will find the mpp for you.

Hello, Tony
is there any appreciable difference between maximizer Engelec and Scorpio?

Sorry, but you could make some comment that the scheme presented in the post MiniMini maximizer - It Works?
Thanks again for your consideration.

From memory, the Engelec Unit outperforms both the scorpio an elabtronics units.
Between all maximizers, there is hardly any difference. The car setup is the most important thing.
