Two very high quality cars.
Stilleto would of came second if Aether didnt knock it out.

Looks like Moorebank has produced some good quality cars this year. It's interesting to note that both of these were two of the heavier cars at the NSW event.
Speaking of chassis weights, do the values listed in the Sunsprint scrutineering spreadsheet include the two eggs?

I look forward to seeing some of the other cars and the scrutineering pics.

Hi, yes all the chassis weights include the two eggs.. I hope.
I also noted there are some errors in the Voc and Isc values, i think they jumbled up with the Vmp and Imp.

Not that I want to be nit picky, but I should point out that Stilletto would not pass scrutineering at the nationals. Why? The black tape down the windscreen is wider than 4mm. I know, that wouldn't affect the car's performance, but that's what is in the rules, for better or for worse, and cars have not passed scrutineering for much less. Or it could have had a 200g weight penalty imposed. Rules are rules.

Hi John, That photo was taken before the races. It was not an actual race.

I made them modify the front screen to comply with rules, just so no one else complains about it, as they had two very intimidating cars.

All the cars that made it into the top 5 at our event were heavily scrutinised to make sure they were compliant with the national event.

Hi Tony,

Like I said, I wasn't being picky, I just wanted to point that out before someone else did. Also, it's much better to say something now rather than wait until the nationals. When you are doing scrutineering it's much easier to offer solutions to small infringements like that rather than be difficult about it. I don't know what they did but simply replacing the black tape with clear tape would have been enough.

Not too sure either bit i think they just used a Stanley blade and trimmed the black tape down in the critical areas.
I was very picky in the state event and made at least 7-8 teams reconstruct their cargo area and bulkheads to comply.

Another few interesting photos there. I can't quite put my finger on it, but Blur from St Paul's looks a bit similar to a certain car from last year. ;)

hopefully ill try to get some more photos of john soon aswell and upload them.

btw the guys ended up using the 11W bp panel on race day only used the dse panels for time trials. the dse panels were the only ones they had at there disposal being the second team.

I don't know about Blur looking like any car from last year. Looks much more like a copy of Untouchable, Clarence High 2002, to me, right down to the 10 DSE panels. That makes it a 10 year old design! Shame it's not as fast, though.

By the way, did I just read that they changed from 10 x DSE panels to an 11 watt BP panel between the time trials on Saturday and the races on Sunday? Sounds like instant disqualification to me!

Well, not a student built car at least. I had been referring to the 2009 test car.

I know it's not from the 2010 Sunsprint event, but here's a pic of the 2002 car that John was talking about. The car that came second but should have won the nationals in 2002 is there next to it.

2002cars.jpg

With a motor and panel update, few of today’s cars would challenge either of these.

Hi guy, there are a few interesting design out there this year. I'm surprise that most of the car designs had a larger front surface area than the back (images posted). However I would like to congratulate Moorebank on there outstanding cars. Looks and performance 10/10. I couldn't help myself to notice the piece of aluminum in the middle of the national track. At first sight it looked very small however is there perspex running up? Did you guys have water drainage issues like last years national event?

On another note I'm sure that there will be more design like that of the pictures from 2002 in the WA event. Certainly I know my demo design for this year is similar to "wheres my car."

Good luck to everyone else which still has their state event. Also interested in seen more pictures

Thanks. That piece of "aluminium" with perspex is probably an additional barrier concerning with stopping the cars at high sunlight. In the state, there were no issues with stopping the cars at low sunlights so it wasn't needed, but it definitely reduces the likelihood of a car uncontrollably moving towards the other side of the lane (as was the case last year with the tassie and primary school, where the balsa blade broke due to impact with another car, unexpectedly moving towards the other lane). I recall that our car had to pass along a relatively deep "river" on the bottom of the hill, which was unfortunate but it was quickly cleared. Apart from that, the track was relatively well maintained to stop any water build up.

I did bring my camera along, however i was busy on the day and never got around taking any meaningful photos of the cars.

John,

The team intended to continue using the DSE panels for the entire event. However, the original panel was trodden on shortly before racing commenced and one of the modules no longer works. Because of this, the team decided to change to their BP panel in accordance to rule 6.3. The scrutineers (myself included) approved this and allowed the team to make the change.

That sounds suspicious to me Ben! I've never heard of panels been trodden on before. I've had person experience with panels falling of the table and poor handing which led to faulty modules. But trodden on; the question must be asked why it was that close to the floor anyway. What I suspect is that they decided to use a panel with more power. But I'm in Perth, what do I know. I agree John , disqualification. However that wouldn't make the event exciting, would it now?

I'm not the one who trod on it, I was in the scrutineering room when it happened, and that's what I was told. But the fact of the matter is that one of the modules is now faulty (yes, we tested individual modules and found out which one...) and the scrutineers allowed the team to change panels. What happened was within the rules, and any ruling that was made does not need to be clarified on a forum a week after the event anyway.

Another note, they were not the only team to change panels. One of the novice teams had two Scorpio panels without any additional support, and by the end of the first day both were damaged as we had warned them. Thus they also changed panels...
