Motor Talk

Postby Conitsiotis » Fri Oct 23, 2009 6:04 pm

Hi all,

I'm doing a school physics project on motors and gear ratios, with the idea of using a Dyno. However something that is coming up quite alot is motor load. I know the basics of what it is and how it works on a car, however to replicate the scenario of a solar car, i want to know if its possible to obtain a value, and how I would go about this (google has so far been unhelpful)

Cheers,

What sort of value do you want to obtain..
Are you after a value for the load on the motor?

Trying to measure the effect of gear ratios on a car. For example, the difference in acceleration and top speed when using a 16 to 96 gear ratio, or a 12 to 72 ratio. In effect, finding the final velocity. The main question if how do we build a dynamometer capable of measuring rpm, torque and how to keep power and load constant across all experiments. It would also been nice to measure horsepower.

With the load, am i correct to assume that this changes during A race - ie lessens as the car gains momentum? So is it thes possible to obtain a "set" value, at any point in time?

hi everyone,
I've been wanting to purchase a faulhaber 2232 for a while now, but I can't seem to find anywhere to purchase them from.
Does anyone know where I can purchase one from?
cheers,
Curtis

Welcome to the forum Curtis, I'm assuming you're an AIMSCC competitor, if so - which state / team are you from?

I think John Jefferies is the man to talk to about purchasing a 2232, he is on this forum so just send him a PM.

Thank-you for such a fast reply, and yes I am an AIMSCC competitor from Victoria.
You may know the car "Skylite" which competed in this years Nationals.
Again thank-you for telling me where to buy a 2232

Cheers,
Curtis

No worries :D

I remember Skylite, you guys were in the unlucky position of having to race the Plate Winner.
